The life of Isaac Davison Cook (1844-1888) was full of surprises. Born to Joseph D. Cook and Matilda Morrison of Portaupique Mountain, he became both a school teacher and a store-keeper in Londonderry town during its heyday. His two younger sisters succumbed to tuberculosis before their 29th birthday and Isaac himself would develop it. He married a young widow from Stewiacke, NS, Susan Creelman Archibald and their first adopted child died at age six. Records about their son, Harry, remained inaccessible for years. Isaac and Susan went to California, probably for the climate and Isaac died there in San Bernardino County. Susan and Harry returned to Nova Scotia where Susan remarried two more times. Her lifespan was (1844-1904).
