James Lester Cook was born in 1890 at Foots Creek in Jackson County, Oregon, the son of John Andrew Cook and Emma Bailey. By the time he married in 1911, to Ethel Ella Elizabeth Smith born in 1895, he was a blacksmith by trade. In 1917 when he registered for the Draft for the First World War, he described himself as a self employed auto dealer. By the 1930s, James L. was living in Northern California where he married Alice Hopeirene St. John (1907-1992). Two children were born to this marriage. James Lester died in 1970 in Yuba County, CA. His widow, Alice, went on to marry again.

James R. who goes by Jim, was born in Multnomah County, Oregon. In 1949 he married Betty June Tuthill and together they had two daughters. For many years he worked on the Spokane Portland and Seattle Railway.
