Jim-Bob, as he was known, was born in Portaupique, NS in 1850 to Charles and Eliza Jane. He was a ships carpenter working in Wallace, a community in Cumberland County on the Northumberland Strait, when he met his wife to-be, Jessie Mae Kennedy (1851-1895). Three children were born to them in Portaupique then Jessie died at the age of 44. Jim Bob remarried a widow, Caroline Amelia Dimock who brought three children to their marriage. At the turn of the century they left Portaupique for New London, Connecticut. At age 50, Jim-Bob was among a generation who was prepared to make a fresh start in a new country, probably for the economic benefits he anticipated. He died in Plymouth County, Massachusetts in 1930.
