Ephraim Cook (1828-1897) was born in Londonderry Township, son of John Boyd Cook and Ann Mary Carr.  In 1853 he married in Onslow to Julia Ann Elizabeth Stevens (1827-1905). Ephraim was at first a blacksmith and at the 1871 Census, the family was recorded close to the County line on the Cumberland side. After his widowed mother died, he and Julia moved their small family to British Columbia. It’s said they crossed the continent by train. As a dairy farmer, Ephraim would benefit from the longer growing season in Nanaimo, BC.
